Oh how 4 years have flown by! I can't believe our little nugget just turned 4 a few short weeks ago. I know it's been a long time since I've actually taken the time to sit down and write about our little guy, so I'm excited to finally have some time to do so right now :)
Dear Will,
I'm sorry it's been so long since you've had a letter from Mommy and Daddy... but we're going to try to change that right now :) A few short weeks ago you had your 4th birthday and we can't believe how quick these last 4 years have went by. You are thrilled to be 4 and are constantly telling us that you are big now and not little anymore. I ask you all the time if you'll still be my baby and you tell me no that you are now a big boy :( Although I can still can you nugget if I call you big nugget, and you do tell me quite frequently that you’ll still marry me... you always follow it up with the fact that you want 2 rings instead of just 1… you think Daddy got the short end of the stick in the ring department since Mommy has an engagement ring and a wedding ring, and Daddy only has a wedding ring. You are so much like your Daddy it makes me laugh!!
Speaking of being just like your Daddy… you are starting to show interest in the same things he is interested in. You love… and I mean LOVE Lego Star Wars. You and Daddy will sit downstairs for hours on end playing video games together. Sometimes it takes me 4 or 5 times of calling you two up for dinner to actually get you to stop playing the games! You also have a love of movies just like Daddy. You two will quote lines back and forth to each other, and you love popping some popcorn and heading downstairs to catch some movie time with Daddy. You like rough housing and various sports. You play hockey in the house each night with Daddy and Dublin (much to Mommy’s dismay), and you’re about to start t-ball and basketball in another week or two. You are excited for Daddy to get his bike so that the two of you and go riding together on the tow path in downtown Brunswick.
You are also very much like your Mommy in many ways as well. You like everything to have a place and to be organized. And I catch you in stores asking me if we have a coupon for something before you ask if we can buy it ☺ Just today we were at CVS and I told you we weren’t going to buy the toothpaste that you had chosen because it wasn’t on sale and we didn’t have a coupon for it, and you put it right back on the shelf like you understood what all of that meant. You also do not like to get dirty. It’s funny to watch you play with finger paints because you almost always request a paintbrush to use instead of your fingers. You also like to shop for clothes and shoes and will sit on my lap while we scroll through the pages of gap and Gymboree and you’ll tell me exactly what you want me to buy you. Ok, so maybe you got that from both Mommy and Daddy ☺
You have such a big personality and are still so incredibly out going... I admire this in you. You are always willing to chat up a new friend, or even a new adult that you've met and are extremely friendly. You are very articulate and communicate with others well and get along with all your classmates at school. Speaking of classmates, you have a best buddy this year, his name is Owen. I was so worried when I dropped you off at preschool the very first day because you had never met the kids before. When I dropped you off for day 2 I knew I didn't have to worry anymore because your new friend Owen came running up to you so excited that you were there to play with him. From that day on, you two have been inseparable at school.
You love school, and adore your teachers Mrs. Sweeney and Mrs. Stamper. You are very well behaved at school and listen and follow directions the first time given... it made Mommy and Daddy so happy to hear this at your conference, yet made us crazy at the same time because you are definitely not always like that at home with us :) You are very smart and pick up on things quickly. Sometimes it only takes one time for you to hear or see something new and you have the new skill down pat. You and I do a lot of learning in the car together. You are a captive audience in that car seat and I've taken that opportunity to teach you many of your letters, and also most of your letter sounds and blends. You are very interested in learning and are always asking all kinds of questions about things around you. You are also starting to sounds out some words now and it's so funny how you always have to spell out the letters of the word STOP when I stop at a stop sign.
We decided to put you in the 5's program at preschool next year because of how far you've come this year with your learning, and how much you enjoy learning. Your teachers seem to think you would have been bored in the 4's and also think you'll have no problem relating to the older kids and keeping up with them academically... so we're going for it. Mommy is still a little nervous about the whole thing, but I'm sure you'll do fine... you always do :)
Daddy and I took you for your 4 year old check a few weeks ago and you passed with soaring marks! You thought the vision and hearing test was super funny with the glasses you had to wear, and the cards you had to identify. You were 40.25 Inches tall, and 36 pounds! It’s incredible how much you’ve grown this past year… you are now going to be able to ride more rides at the carnival this year!! I know Daddy would love to get you on a roller coaster. You were not a big fan of the 5 shots they had to give you… it’s the most you’ve ever had at one time, and you were devastated. You yelled my name the entire time they were giving you the shots and it seriously broke my heart that I couldn’t do anything about it :(
You are growing by leaps and bounds my little nugget and we are so excited to see what an awesome big brother you are going to be come July. You love talking to your sister, and every time I bring something new home for her your response is “ohhhh how cute!” There hasn’t been any jealousy as of yet, and you willingly gave your old baby toys, furniture, and books to the baby. You even got to help paint her nursery and pick out some of the things that she will be using once she gets a little bigger. You made extra sure you picked out her lovies… you are adamant that Alyssa needs monkey lovies… so monkey lovies she is getting.
You are such a sweet sweet child Will and we are beyond thrilled that we get to be your Mommy and Daddy.
Love,
Mommy and Daddy
Random tidbits about you…
- You still call elevators alligators… I kind of hope you never outgrow it… it’s so cute!
- You prefer Daddy to tell you a story at night because he will tell you Star Wars stories… Mommy knows nothing about Star Wars and I think it drive you nuts… you get very frustrated with me sometimes when you have to explain things multiple times to me
- You are a stink about getting ready for bed when both of us are home… if it’s just one of us, you are fantastic!
- You love taking baths and have taken over all of Mommy’s bath products. You are the only 4 year old we know that has a liking for gourmet bath products from Lush ☺
- You refuse to eat vegetables except for guacamole… such a strange thing for a kid to like!
- You love babies and are very very gentle with them. It’s only when they start to crawl and touch your toys that you start to get a little rough with them
- You prefer Daddy’s spot in bed and will promptly request it on the weekends in the morning so you can relax and watch some tv in bed… I think it’s time for a king size bed!
- Whenever I ask you who taught you something new, or where you learned to say something.. your answer 99% of the time is Uncle Chris
