On August 12th our baby girl turned 1 month old! I can't believe how fast the time has gone :(
Dear Alyssa,
What a big month you've had baby girl! You entered the world as a little peanut weighing in at 6 lbs 11 oz and 19 inches long. And now, after attending your 1 month apptmt... you are 9 lbs 6 oz. and 21 1/4 inches long! I think it's safe to say you enjoy eating :) We were really hoping to escape the reflux that your brother suffered from, but it looks like that is not going to be the case. You've been having more and more issues lately eating and sleeping... so the doctor went ahead and put you on Zantac to see if we can get things under control.
You've really started to develop a personality over this last month. It is very clear that you adore your big brother and are thrilled to have him around you. If you hear his voice you will practically flip yourself out of my arms looking around the room trying to find him. And it's very sweet that he shares the same adoration of you :) Whenever I lay you on your playmat he always lays down right next to you and tries to show you the toys and get you to hold things. Soon you're going to be rolling over and interacting more... I think you two are really going to have some fun then! When you're awake you are extremely alert... you want to be where the action is and you make very clear eye contact with people now. You smiled for the first time on July 21st... of course at your Daddy! Mommy is now 0 for 2 with baby first smiles :( You were a very happy and easy baby early in your first month, but are going through a fussy stage, which we are hoping is just linked to the reflux you've been experiencing.
Mommy did get a chance to breast feed you, even if only for a little bit. I just didn't make enough... and you were not a happy girl when your belly wasn't full... so we moved on to bottles and enfamil gentlease. Your brother ate the same and turned out pretty darn good :) You are getting better and better with sleeping at night. You are currently down between 8 and 9 pm (you are really fussy while trying to get to sleep). And you sleep till about 1 or 2 am... wake up and eat, then sleep again till 4 or 5 am, wake up and eat, then sleep again till 7 or 8. We are very thankful for that first long stretch of sleep. Just the other night you slept from 9-2 am! And technically it was a 6 hour stretch without food because you ate at 8 pm that night. Mommy is hoping you start getting longer stretches and we can narrow the feedings down to just once a night. Oh how nice that would be!! haha.
You very much like being held and also wrapped in blankets. Sometimes when you're fussing I just wrap you in a blanket and hold you for a few minutes and you fall right to sleep. I think it might have something to do with the cramped quarters you were in for 9 months... there was not much room in there and I think you might have gotten used to being "hugged" all the time :)
For your 1 month I set up a little photo shoot for you with your cutie newborn hat I ordered for you. It took the hat over 7 weeks to arrive... so instead of using it for your newborn pics... it got used for your 1 month pics... and you'd grown so much that the thing barely fit you!! You were not a big fan of the hat, but I was still able to grab a few cute pictures of you in it... and a few of you and your brother... he crashed our session about 10 minutes into it :)
Mitsky Moops (or Moopers as Daddy calls you) we love having you as part of our family... I can't wait to see what month 2 brings!!
Love you!
Mommy, Daddy, and Big brother Will
