First day of preschool

Dear Will,

This past Tuesday your Daddy and I drove you to your very first day of preschool!  It's amazing to me how big you are now... and how fast you grew!  I know that you went to "school" last year,  but somehow that playroom program just wasn't the same as the one we took you to this week.  You have circle time, and classroom jobs, and field trips, and a folder to take back and forth to school.  You have a hook with your name above it for your bookbag... and you have to sign in each morning by putting a sticker on the correct date on your name card.

You were very nervous heading to school that first day.  You kept saying to us that you wanted to go to your old preschool (the one upstairs, not downstairs you'd say). Your teachers loved you there, and you loved them, and I felt sad that you would be in a totally different room with totally different teachers and kids... but I also knew that once you got used to it, you'd love it just like you loved your class last year.  You were very sweet and humored Mommy with lots of pictures before we left... and you even took some of your own as well.  You looked so cute with your little backpack and lunch box!

As we drove to school we talked about all the neat things you would be doing... but you weren't convinced.  When we got to the school you were a big boy and showed Daddy the stairs to go down, and what door to us.  But when we got inside... you got very nervous.  I snapped a very sweet picture of you cuddled with Daddy with your head on his shoulder.  You were a trooper though and learned where to put your backpack and lunch bag... and you listened to Mrs. Sweeney when she told you to find your name and put a sticker on the 7 to show that you were at school today.  When it was time for us to say good-bye... you cried and it made me so sad to leave you there.  But Daddy and I left... and then sneaked back in the school to make sure you were ok... we were assured that you were going to be fine... and I knew you would, it would just take some time to adjust.  When I picked you up later that afternoon you were still sad and said you didn't have fun... but I knew you had.  We went home and took some silly pictures to put you in a better mood  :)

The second day was better, and by Thursday you were fine.  When we walked in Thursday you wanted me to stay and do your morning check in with you... so I did... then you promptly gave me a hug and a kiss, said good-bye and went over to play with your friends.  When I picked you up Thursday afternoon you had lots to tell me.  You sang songs, and read books, painted, had snack (that you didn't like) and had circle time.  And the big news of the day... you got to be the weather helper that morning!  You told me all about how you looked out the window and saw the sun... and then you took the pointer and pointed to Mr. Sun with the big glasses and told the class that it was sunny today.  I love when you share things about your morning at school with me... I miss not having you around each morning.

Daddy and I are so proud of you for how well you've done with your preschool transition this first week of school.  You are such an energetic and happy boy... and we are thrilled with how much you love to learn.  We know you're going to have a wonderful year and grow leaps and bounds learning new things from your teachers and other classmates.

We are so lucky and blessed to have you as our son Will!!

We love you!
Mommy and Daddy
