We got there around the second inning since I knew he wouldn't sit too long in one spot. It wasn't more than five minutes before a player threw him a game ball. My whole life and I never got a game ball that I remember, but Will takes five minutes. After that, he decided that he wanted every ball, every time, to the point that he was upset when the players caught the balls for outs. His exclamations were a joy to those around us. A couple of innings later we wandered around while he was getting antsy. Will had popcorn, rode a merry-go-round, had a turn in a bounce house, played on the playground and saw Batman getting a hot dog. Oh yeah, forgot to mention it was superhero night, so they had a bunch of guys dressed up and giving stuff out to the kids. I explained to Will that even superheros get hungry, "Batman's hungry for hot dogs.", he said. I decided to catch the last few innings before leaving early to watch the after-game fireworks from the car. When we get to the seats, everyone around us said they called our seat on the loudspeaker....turns out we won movie tickets! As we went to collect out prize, they put us on the jumbo-tron but we only saw the last second. To top it all off, I bought him a souvenir bat on the way out because he behaved so well and actually listened to me the whole time. At the end we watched the fireworks, which he enjoyed but admitted they scared him some. This was the latest he had ever stayed up and when we got home he asked, "Daddy, are we going to bed today?" Unfortunately, yes.
Here are a few pics from the game. They were taken with my phone (sacrilege in this house) since I had no way to carry anything else useful, like a camera. So, apologize for the quality (and lack of quantity), which is usually much better on this blog. Enjoy!
He started out great, actually sitting in his seat!
"Let me catch all the balls!", he said.
Sitting on the car, waiting for fireworks after a LONG evening.
