On Saturday we had a party to celebrate our little man's first birthday. It was small, just grandparents, Uncle Chris, and his girls Piper and Katie and their parents. Next year we figured we'd go all out since he will understand more next year that it is actually his birthday. There are so many pictures from the party it took me about an hour to sort through them all on the computer and choose the ones I wanted to post... (I guess that is what happens when you have three people at the party with digital SLR's... thanks for all the awesome pictures everyone!!), and even with all that sorting I might have to make two posts in order to write about, and add photos of his wonderful party.
We started the party with some gift opening after the birthday boy decided to wake up from his crazy long nap. I didn't even have to hand him a present to open, he just kind of walked up to the pile and started pulling paper off like a pro! Will got distracted quite a bit from the opening, but he had his girls Katie and Piper there to help him and keep him on track. Katie was the official present chooser and helped tell Will and Piper how to open. Will received so many awesome gifts from everyone and of course wanted to play with everything right after it was opened. He is going to be one spoiled kid once this summer hits. He has a new sandbox/picnic table, a new pool, a sprinkler, and a mini power wheels to ride when it gets warmer outside. Uncle Chris also got him an easel and some sidewalk chalk that we can set up outside until he learns to play a little neater. Although, I still think the window markers are going to have to wait :)
Will pulled the paper so hard he fell over!

At one point somehow I managed to line them all up in a row with a gift in each of their laps... sometimes I just can't contain the teacher in me!
Opening is just so much work...
When dinner was over, it was time to sing happy birthday to the silly man. We all gathered around his Elmo cake to sing to him but all he wanted to do was grab the Elmo and the beach ball off of the top of it. I got Will's cake from Carriage House, and when I ordered it, I had them make him a small cake all for himself that said "Happy Birthday to me!" on it. They did such a nice job on both of his cakes... and they always taste soooo good! After we sang happy birthday, I sat Will in his highchair, handed him his cake, and then waited for him to figure out what to do with the cake. Well he knew exactly what he wanted to do with the cake... he wanted to eat it! I think I can definitely say that my little boy has a sweet tooth after that cake eating display. Most kids would mash the cake, or smear it, or just kind of play around in it. Oh no, not Will. He was taking fist fulls and shoving them into his mouth. He kept looking up at all of us laughing and taking pictures of him eating, and I swear he thought we were all crazy because in his mind he wasn't doing anything silly, he was just eating. By the time everything was said and done, Will had eaten about half of his cake... and I mean eaten, not dropped on the floor or on his highchair, actually eaten. He wasn't pleased when we took the cake away from him... but we were a little worried that he might get sick if he ate anymore.
After his cake eating, Will got to have a nice little bath in the sink. He is such a silly child and has now started to wriggle out of his towel after his bath so he can run around naked laughing... and that is just what he did after his bath in the sink... only he was running around the living room naked, not down our hallway. All in all, I think Will had a wonderful party. I had so much fun planning it, and a lot of fun having everyone over to the house to celebrate this special birthday with us. I just can't believe that my baby is actually 1! He has changed and grown so much since the day we brought him home from the hospital. It's so amazing to look back at all the pictures and think about all the milestones, and all the memories we have created. I'm so sad this first year is over, but I am so very excited to watch Will grow, learn, and create more memories with us in his second year of life.

After gift opening we took a break and waited for the pizza to get there. About 1.5 hours after I ordered it, it finally got there and everyone got to eat. During our break Will took some time out to be silly with his Dada and to also run around half naked in preparation for the pizza he was about to eat. While we were waiting for pizza, Aaron and the rest of the guys went outside to try out Will's new set of kids golf clubs, and the three little ones enjoyed Chris's juggling skills.
Will wanted nothing to do with posing for pictures so this is about as good a family photo as we could get
